# Use Merchant email as the sender's email

Send affiliate emails from your own branded domain in UpPromote and improve inbox delivery. Available from the Professional plan

### What affiliates see today

By default, your affiliate emails are sent from ***<no-reply@secomapp.com>***. Replies go to your contact email.

You can replace that From address with one on your own domain — for example ***<affiliate@yourbrand.com>*** — once the address and the domain are both set up.

### Why there are two steps

Inbox providers no longer accept an address just because someone can read the mailbox. When a message arrives claiming to come from ***yourbrand.com***, Gmail and Outlook check whether ***yourbrand.com*** actually authorized it. Without that proof, the message is filtered or rejected — and it's your domain's reputation that absorbs it.

So UpPromote needs two separate things:

1. **Proof you own the mailbox**. We email you a confirmation link. This stops anyone else from setting your address as their store's sender.
2. **Proof you control the domain**. You add three DNS records so your emails carry a signature made in your domain's name.
   \
Until both are done, your affiliate emails keep going out from ***<no-reply@secomapp.com>***, which is authenticated on our side and delivers reliably.

### Setting it up

*Contact email and sender email are two separate settings.*

Go to ***Settings > General > Sender*** email and turn on **Send from your own address**.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="https://2915776664-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-LnqRFg4of77qA6qOdUp%2Fuploads%2FifRVcQSyww1pLmxc8ymf%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=de187598-d5d7-4716-b846-bfef7bb8a4cc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

*Both steps are visible from the start. Step 2 unlocks as soon as you send the verification email.*

**Step 1 — Confirm your sender address**
\
Enter the address you want in the From field and click **Send verification email**.

The address must be on a domain you control. Addresses on free providers (gmail.com, yahoo.com, outlook.com and similar), disposable domains, and forwarding or alias services (Apple Hide My Email, DuckDuckGo, SimpleLogin) can't be used — you can't add DNS records to those domains, so step 2 could never be completed. If you enter one, you'll see an error explaining why.

An address on your own domain works regardless of who hosts the mailbox. ***<affiliate@yourbrand.com>*** running on Google Workspace is perfectly fine — what matters is the domain, not the mailbox provider.

Open the email we send and click the link. It works for 72 hours. If it expires, come back to this screen and send a new one.

**Step 2 — Authenticate your domain**
\
This step opens as soon as you click **Send verification email** — you don't have to wait for the confirmation email to arrive.

You'll see three CNAME records. Add all three to the DNS settings of your domain. Each row has a copy button for the name and the value; copy them exactly, character for character. There's also ***Download as CSV*** if someone else manages your DNS and you need to send the records over.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="https://2915776664-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-LnqRFg4of77qA6qOdUp%2Fuploads%2FYJybLSxGLh6zXuJRQQSM%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=58c4ccc2-e835-4725-ad1d-2370c160628d" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

*Copy each value exactly. Every row has its own copy button.*

This step needs access to your domain's DNS settings, which often means asking a developer or whoever registered the domain. DNS changes can take up to 72 hours to spread. We keep checking in the background — you don't have to stay on the page.

Adding these records doesn't affect your existing email. They only let us sign affiliate emails in your domain's name.

**When both steps are done**

Your affiliate emails start going out from your address automatically. The status strip at the top of the card shows Active, and replies continue to go to your contact email.

### Checking where you stand

The status strip at the top of the Sender email card always shows the address your emails are actually being sent from right now:

| Status | Meaning |
| -------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Default** | Sending from `no-reply@secomapp.com`. The feature is off |
| **Setup incomplete** | You've started, but at least one step is unfinished. Still sending from `no-reply@secomapp.com` |
| **Active** | Both steps done. Sending from your address |
| **Reverted** | Your DNS records went missing, so we switched back to `no-reply@secomapp.com` |

### If your records go missing

If the DNS records are removed or changed after your setup is active — a DNS migration, a domain transfer, a cleanup — we detect it, switch your emails back to ***<no-reply@secomapp.com>***, and email your contact address to tell you which records are missing.

Your emails keep going out the whole time. Add the records again and we switch back to your address automatically. You don't need to tell us or turn anything back on.

### **Changing your sender address**

Click **Change** in **step 1**.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="https://2915776664-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-LnqRFg4of77qA6qOdUp%2Fuploads%2FYtwO8CK28AjbXGyA82t2%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=aab45f81-218e-4635-807a-2439a033cc0c" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

* **Same domain** (***<partners@yourbrand.com> → <affiliate@yourbrand.com>***): you confirm the new mailbox, but the DNS records stay as they are. Nothing to re-add.
* **Different domain**: you'll be asked to confirm, then you get a new set of records for the new domain. Until those are in place, emails go from ***<no-reply@secomapp.com>***.

### **If you don't finish**

If step 2 is still incomplete 30 days after the records were issued, we release them and you can request a new set. The new values will be different from the old ones, so anything you already pasted would need replacing.
