# Refer-a-friend

Auto-convert signed-up customers into affiliates, and why new stores should use Post-purchase signup for refer-a-friend instead. Available from the Growth plan

## Post-purchase popup

The **Post-purchase popup** feature will be **removed on January 21, 2025**, due to [Shopify’s deprecation of ScriptTag on checkout](https://shopify.dev/docs/apps/build/online-store/blocking-script-tags?syclid=ctb5vae3879s73ahli30t#does-your-app-still-require-scripttags-on-the-order-status-page). We recommend transitioning to the **Post-purchase signup** feature, which aligns with Shopify’s Checkout Extensibility framework. Please update your workflows accordingly.

#### Transition to Post-purchase signup

To continue engaging customers post-purchase, we recommend transitioning to the **Post-purchase signup** feature, which offers:

* **Compatibility**: Fully aligned with Shopify’s Checkout Extensibility framework.
* **Enhanced experience**: A streamlined signup flow for better customer engagement.
* **Ease of use**: Simple setup and customization for merchants.

## Convert signed-up customers to affiliates

As of 7 June 2024, the  *Convert signed-up customer* feature will be **unavailable** for all new merchants installing the app. This decision has been made to align with Shopify Checkout Extensibility.

Besides the **Post-purchase popup**, you can enable a new feature: **Convert signed-up customers** from your shop to affiliates. Please go to **Outreach > Affiliate recruitment > Convert signed-up customers.**

When customers register their accounts in your shop, our system **will automatically create affiliate accounts for them**. They will then get a notification email with their affiliate links and their affiliate log-in details.

Firstly, enable this feature and choose a program you want your customers to be in:

You will be able to customize the notification email sent to new registered customers.

Click **Save** to save your settings.

***TIP**: Create a separate program for **Converted customers**, you can set this program to pay with* [***Store credit***](https://docs.uppromote.com/set-up/payment-setup/store-credit) *exclusively. That will help to keep your customers as loyal customers.*
