# User Data Deletion & Social Account Disconnection

Last updated: August 18, 2026

UpPromote respects your privacy and gives you control over personal data associated with your use of our services.

This page explains how merchants, affiliates, creators, and other UpPromote users can disconnect supported third-party accounts and request deletion of personal data held by UpPromote.

This policy should be read together with the **UpPromote Privacy Policy** and **UpPromote Terms of Service**.

You do not need to be logged in to submit a data deletion request.

### 1. Who this policy applies to

This policy applies to personal data processed by UpPromote in connection with:

* Merchant accounts and stores using UpPromote;
* Affiliate and creator accounts;
* UpPromote Marketplace, Creator Discovery, and other UpPromote services;
* Third-party accounts that users voluntarily connect to UpPromote, including supported social media accounts such as Instagram; and
* Other personal data that UpPromote processes directly in connection with the Services.

UpPromote's role under applicable data protection law may vary depending on the processing activity.

Where UpPromote processes personal data solely on behalf of a Merchant or another customer and according to that customer's instructions, the relevant Merchant or customer may be responsible for handling certain privacy requests as the data controller. Where appropriate, UpPromote may assist in processing or routing those requests.

Where a User personally connects a social media account directly to UpPromote, UpPromote determines the purposes and means necessary to operate that connection, authenticate or verify the connected account, and provide the applicable UpPromote features. UpPromote may therefore act as an independent controller for those processing activities.

A Merchant that receives or uses personal data made available through the Services may separately have its own responsibilities under applicable privacy law.

### 2. Disconnecting a social account and deleting data are different actions

You may disconnect a supported social account without deleting your entire UpPromote account.

When you disconnect a social account through an available UpPromote control:

* UpPromote stops requesting new information through that connection;
* The account is no longer treated as actively connected;
* Automatic synchronization of profile or performance information stops;
* Active authorization credentials are revoked, invalidated, deleted, or otherwise made unavailable for further use as technically supported by the relevant platform; and
* UpPromote stops displaying the account as an active verified connection.

Disconnecting a social account does not delete your original account, posts, videos, or other content from the relevant social media platform.

Disconnecting also does not automatically delete your UpPromote account, referral links, commission records, payout records, or other information unrelated to the connected social account.

If you would like UpPromote to delete personal data previously obtained from the connected social account, you may submit a deletion request as described in Section 5.

Where UpPromote provides an in-product option that expressly states that disconnecting will also delete stored connected-account data, the behavior described in that product notice will apply.

### 3. Social account data covered by this policy

Depending on the relevant platform, permissions granted, and features used, information obtained through a connected social account may include:

* Social platform user or account identifiers;
* Username, display name, profile image, biography, profile URL, and account type;
* Public profile information;
* Follower, following, subscriber, content, or similar profile statistics;
* Media or content identifiers and metadata;
* Content or account performance information or insights, such as views, reach, impressions, likes, comments, shares, saves, or similar metrics where made available by the relevant platform;
* Aggregated audience information made available by the relevant platform, where authorized and supported;
* Information about when the account was connected, synchronized, disconnected, or reauthorized;
* Permissions or scopes granted to UpPromote;
* OAuth access tokens, refresh tokens, or other authorization credentials; and
* Technical, audit, or security information related to the connection.

UpPromote processes only data made available through the relevant platform and within the permissions authorized for the applicable UpPromote feature.

### 4. How to disconnect a connected social account

Where an in-product disconnect control is available, you may disconnect a social account from the relevant connected-account or social-account settings within UpPromote.

After the connection is removed, UpPromote will stop requesting new information under that authorization.

You may also be able to remove UpPromote directly through the connected apps, websites, or permissions settings provided by the relevant social media platform.

Removing UpPromote through the third-party platform prevents continued access under the revoked authorization.

Removing access through the third-party platform does not necessarily delete information that UpPromote lawfully received before the authorization was revoked. To request deletion of stored information, follow Section 5.

### 5. How to request deletion of your data

You may request deletion of personal data that UpPromote holds about you, subject to applicable law.

#### Through UpPromote

Where deletion, account-management, or connected-account controls are available within the Services, you may use those controls directly.

#### By email

You may email: [**support@uppromote.com**](mailto:support@uppromote.com)

Use the subject:

**Data Deletion Request**

Please provide enough information for us to identify the relevant account or data. This may include:

* The email address associated with your UpPromote account;
* Your UpPromote account or profile information;
* The relevant social platform;
* Your social username or profile URL, where applicable; and
* A short description of the data you would like deleted.

Please do not send us your social media password, OAuth access token, or other sensitive authentication credentials.

You do not need to be logged in to submit a request. If you believe UpPromote holds personal data about you but you cannot access an UpPromote account, you may still contact us using the email above.

### 6. What happens after we receive a deletion request

UpPromote may take reasonable steps to verify that the person submitting the request is the individual concerned or is authorized to act on that person's behalf.

We will not request more information than reasonably necessary to verify and process the request.

Once a request has been verified, and where no legal exception or other lawful basis requires or permits us to retain particular information, UpPromote will delete, anonymize, or permanently de-identify the personal data covered by the request.

For connected social account data, this may include:

* Connected social account identifiers;
* Profile information obtained through the connection;
* Stored social performance or insight data;
* Media or content metadata obtained through the connection;
* Audience information obtained through the connection;
* Active access and refresh tokens; and
* Other personal data derived directly from the connected account.

Where service providers process relevant personal data on UpPromote's behalf, UpPromote will take appropriate steps to communicate or apply the deletion request where required.

We will confirm completion or notify you if additional information is reasonably required.

### 7. Merchant account deletion and Shopify uninstall

For Merchants using UpPromote through Shopify, uninstalling the UpPromote application triggers the applicable Merchant and store data deletion process described in the UpPromote Privacy Policy.

UpPromote's existing Privacy Policy states that applicable Merchant and store personal data is deleted following uninstall in accordance with the retention period described there, subject to information that UpPromote is legally permitted or required to retain.

A Merchant may also contact UpPromote using the method in Section 5 regarding a personal data deletion request.

### 8. Affiliate and Creator deletion requests

Affiliates and Creators do not need to uninstall a Merchant's Shopify application in order to exercise privacy rights that apply to them.

An Affiliate or Creator may request deletion of personal data that UpPromote controls about them.

Depending on the relevant account and applicable legal requirements, deletion may include personal profile information, account information, creator profile information, connected social account data, activity data, and other information associated with the User.

Some transaction, commission, payout, tax, fraud-prevention, security, or compliance records may need to be retained as described in Section 9.

Where particular Affiliate or Creator information is processed by UpPromote solely on behalf of a Merchant, UpPromote may need to coordinate with the relevant Merchant to process that portion of the request.

Data obtained through a social account that the User personally connected directly to UpPromote will be handled by UpPromote in accordance with this policy.

Deleting an UpPromote account or disconnecting a social account does not delete the User's original social media account or content maintained by that platform.

### 9. Information we may need to retain

The right to deletion is subject to exceptions under applicable law.

UpPromote may retain limited information where reasonably necessary to:

* Comply with legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, or reporting obligations;
* Establish, exercise, or defend legal claims;
* Resolve disputes;
* Detect, investigate, or prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents;
* Enforce applicable agreements;
* Maintain transaction, commission, payout, invoice, or tax records where retention is legally required; or
* Maintain a limited record showing that a privacy or deletion request was received and processed.

Where information is retained for one of these purposes, UpPromote will limit its use to the relevant purpose and retain it only for as long as reasonably necessary or legally required.

UpPromote will not continue using information retained solely for compliance, security, or legal purposes for unrelated creator enrichment or marketing purposes.

Where possible and appropriate, retained information may be minimized or pseudonymized.

### 10. Connected social data retained for security or compliance purposes

UpPromote's objective when processing a valid deletion request for connected social account data is to remove the identifiable profile, content, performance, and authorization data that is no longer necessary.

UpPromote may retain limited non-content records where reasonably required to demonstrate compliance or protect the Services, such as:

* A record that an account was connected or disconnected;
* The date a deletion request was received and completed;
* Security or fraud-prevention events; or
* Audit information required to demonstrate that access was revoked.

Such records will not be used to continue social profile synchronization, creator enrichment, or performance reporting.

### 11. Backups

Deletion from active systems may occur before deleted information is fully overwritten in secure backup systems.

Residual copies may remain temporarily in backups until those backups are overwritten or deleted in accordance with UpPromote's applicable backup retention practices.

During that period, information that has been validly deleted from active systems will not be used for ordinary product, marketing, creator enrichment, or performance synchronization purposes.

If a backup containing previously deleted data must be restored for disaster recovery or security purposes, UpPromote will take reasonable steps to reapply applicable deletion actions.

### 12. How long deletion requests take

UpPromote will respond to verified deletion requests without undue delay and within the timeframe required by applicable law.

For general deletion requests, UpPromote aims to complete the request within **30 days after verification**, unless:

* Applicable law requires a shorter period;
* Additional time is permitted by applicable law because of the complexity or number of requests;
* UpPromote reasonably needs additional information to verify the request; or
* Specific information is subject to a lawful retention requirement.

Where additional time is permitted and necessary, UpPromote will notify the requester as required by applicable law.

Revocation or disconnection of a social account will stop future access under the revoked authorization as soon as reasonably practicable.

### 13. Requests made through third-party platforms

A supported third-party platform may allow you to remove UpPromote or request deletion of data associated with your authorization.

Where a third-party platform sends UpPromote a valid removal or deletion request through a supported platform mechanism, UpPromote will process that request in accordance with the applicable platform requirements, this policy, and applicable law.

Removing UpPromote from a third-party platform does not delete your account or content maintained directly by that third-party platform.

### 14. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including rights to:

* Access personal data held about you;
* Correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
* Request deletion of personal data;
* Restrict or object to certain processing;
* Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent;
* Request portability of certain information; and
* Lodge a complaint with an applicable data protection authority.

These rights may be subject to conditions and exceptions under applicable law.

More information about UpPromote's processing of personal data is available in the **UpPromote Privacy Policy**.
