# How to Set Up Affiliate Coupon Settings in UpPromote

Coupons give your affiliates a second way to promote your store. A customer enters the affiliate's code at checkout, and UpPromote tracks the sale to that affiliate. The code can also give the customer a discount, which makes it easy to share.

Unlike affiliate links, coupons are not turned on by default. You enable them first, then create or assign codes.

### Turn on coupon tracking

1. Go to **Settings** > **Link & coupon** > **Coupon settings**.
2. Switch on **Tracking by coupon**.

Once it's on, you can start creating and assigning coupon codes to your affiliates.

**Good to know:** Affiliate links work on their own as soon as an affiliate is approved. Coupons are optional. Use them when you also want to offer customers a discount.
