Are you looking for a feature that encourages your customers to refer their friends within UpPromote? UpPromote team has released the Customer referral feature, which allows your customers to promote your products without the need of joining any affiliate program. It helps you boost sales with positive word-of-mouth as well as connect to your loyal customers.

Once you set up the feature, a Refer & Earn widget or Landing page (based on your display settings) will appear on your website to prompt customers to register for your referral program. Here's an example of the Widget display:
When clicked, a popup introducing customers to the Referral program to get a discount. A referral link will be provided instantly when they fill out their emails and click on the Get invite link so they can use it to promote your store.
Customers' friends will get a discount at checkout automatically while purchasing via that invite link.
An email will be sent to customers when their referrals are approved and paid successfully within UpPromote. The email includes the customer's friend name, your shop name, the reward amount as well as a button to claim their rewards.
The Redeem your reward button will redirect customers to a portal where they can view their total referrals, and commissions as well as claim these rewards for coupons to shop in your store.
The customer login page will open when a customer clicks the Redeem your reward button in the email for the first time. A temporary password will be displayed there for the customer to use when signing in. After accessing the portal, they can change the password to their preferences.
Go to Outreach > Affiliate recruitment > Customer referral > click Set up.
Then switch on the Active box to activate the feature.
From here, you can set up the Program name for the Customer referral program (by default, the system will create a separate one for this feature).
There are two types of Rewards for your customers, which are the Flat rate per order and the Percent of sale that you can set a certain amount to. In the meanwhile, their friends can get a Discount by Percentage, Fixed amount, Free shipping, or no discount with the option None.
Note: After saving changes of Customer Referral at first setup or when you publish new Themes, please click on the link provided on the top banner of the Settings page to enable the function on your Themes, then Save to show Customer Referral display(s) on your website.
😍 NEW: You can now select from different display types for your referral program's sign-up interface. These displays can be managed and customized in the Display section.
There are three display options for customers:
Once you enable the widget, it will appear as a floating button on your website. When clicked, it opens a popup where customers can register for your referral program and obtain their unique referral link.
NOTE: This display is only available on the new Shopify checkout version. If your store uses the old checkout version, the Post-purchase signup will not appear on the Thank you/Order status page.
To check which version of checkout your store is using, please go to the Shopify settings > Checkout tab and locate the Configurations section.
If you see an info panel stating as below, your store is using the old checkout version.
To upgrade the checkout version, please click Customize in the Configurations section to access Checkout editor > select the Thank you page > Sections > click Publish button on the banner.
If it doesn't have that info panel, it means that your store is using the new checkout version.
After enabling the display in settings, to show the Post-purchase signup form on your Themes, you'll need to add it as an app block on your Thank you page or Order status page by clicking on the Add block button at the top right corner of the settings section.
Once you click on the Add block button, you'll be redirected to the Thank you page, tab Sections by default > click Add app block > select Post-purchase signup.
After adding Post-purchase signup, you'll have various design options to customize it to fit more to your Themes.
If you want to add the Post-purchase signup display to the Order status page, simply switch to that page and add it there. Please note that you can customize the display separately for each page.
To show the display just once per customer, you'll need to toggle on the function and grant us access to metaobjects. Please click on the Update access button on the banner to accept this.
If this setting is off or you turn it on but haven't granted access, the Post-purchase signup display will appear every time the customer purchases. In case the customer has activated the Referral account before, the display will show his/her referral link immediately.
Note: When you have granted access but then downgrade to the Free plan and upgrade back, you'll need to grant access again so that the Show only once per customer setting can work properly.
Once enabled, this display type serves as a signup form that can be embedded into any page of your store, providing a dedicated space for referral sign-ups. Customers can easily sign up for your referral program directly on this page and receive their referral link to start promoting your store.

There is one default display for customers' friends. Once you activate the Customer referral feature, the Friend incentive popup will appear on your website when referred customers (friends) go through a referral link.
Additionally, each display type now has its own dedicated editor, allowing for deeper customization of design and content. This ensures your referral program aligns perfectly with your brand. Simply navigate to each display section and hit Customize to access its editor. Here's an example:
The system will automatically send an email whenever the merchant processes the payouts for the customer. You can fully customize this email template just like other email templates in the app.
As soon as you finish setting up Customer referral, a program named Customer referral will be created automatically.
Clicking on the Customer referral program name will take you to the Customer referral settings page.
Notes
The Customer referral program cannot be set as the default program.
If a customer has already joined the customer program with an email address, he cannot sign up as an affiliate of any other program using the same email address.
Customer accounts will be displayed separately from the affiliate account list. To review your customer list, go to Affiliates > select Customers.
The referrals brought by customers will be recorded on a separate list from the regular referrals brought by affiliates. To review the referral list brought by customers, go to Referrals > select Customer referrals.
You can get graphical reports on conversion statistics like Clicks, Referrals, Sales, and Commissions for the Customer Referral program and filter by date to evaluate the campaign's efficiency with the Performance of your affiliates chart on the Dashboard.
In case you want to assess each customer’s performance, you can also find it in the Top Affiliate board on the Dashboard as well. This report is also downloadable in various forms so you can compare it with other affiliate programs or assess the effectiveness of the customer referral program regarding the total sales of your store.
