How to Set Up Fraud Detection in UpPromote

Catch and block fake affiliate sign-ups and suspicious referral orders so you never pay commission on fraudulent sales. Available in all plans

Fraud detection helps you catch and block fake sign-ups and suspicious sales before they cost you. Affiliate programs can attract spam accounts and self-referral scams, and this tool watches for them so you don't pay out on bad activity.

To set it up, go to Settings > Fraud detection.

UpPromote protects your program in two areas. Click into each one to set the rules that fit your store.

Two ways UpPromote protects your program

Good to know: Fraud detection works alongside your normal review steps. You still approve affiliates and referral orders, but this tool helps you spot the risky ones faster.

Frequently asked questions

What kinds of fraud does this catch?

It looks for two main risks: fake or spam affiliate sign-ups, and suspicious referral orders, such as affiliates trying to game the system with their own purchases.

Where do I turn on fraud detection?

Go to Settings > Fraud detection. From there, you set rules for sign-ups and for sales and commission.

Will it stop me from paying commission on bad orders?

It flags suspicious referral orders so you can review them before they're approved. Since only approved orders count toward commission, you stay in control. See Fraud protection for sales and commission.

How is this different from excluding self-referrals?

Fraud detection watches for a range of suspicious activity. Excluding self-referrals is one specific rule that stops affiliates from earning on their own purchases. You can use both together.
